Imagine that you’ve just decided to start a private jet business, but you don’t know any millionaires. You could sit through one of the hundreds of courses out there selling information about how to find millionaire clients, and attempt to become successful by doing what everyone else does. Or , you could go rogue and get creative. That’s what Jesse Itzler did when he flew to a TED conference where he’d planned to network with rich execs.

What he hadn’t realized when he booked the flight and hotel, was that the conference required credentials to enter. When he got turned away at the door, he said goodbye to his plans and potential clients, heading to a coffee shop across the street.

While sitting in the coffee shop and wondering how he could still get a sale, and not let 16 hours of travel and hundreds of dollars go to waste, Jesse noticed some of the conference people coming in for coffee and muffins — and got an idea.

Maybe he didn’t need to go to the conference to mingle with clients, after all.

The next morning, he hit the coffee shop at 5am and bought out every last muffin. When one of the professionals ordered a muffin and was surprised to hear the shop had already sold out, Jesse…
